Nora Homemade Sauerkraut (Hjemmelaget Surkål) is a traditional Norwegian side dish made with finely shredded cabbage and apple for a fresh, slightly sweet and tangy flavor.

Sauerkraut has been a favorite on Norwegian dinner tables since the 1700s and is especially associated with traditional festive meals. Nora's recipe is produced in Østfold using Norwegian cabbage and is prepared to give the characteristic tender yet slightly crisp texture of homemade surkål.

Simply heat and serve. It is a classic accompaniment to Norwegian pork dishes, sausages, meatballs, and traditional Christmas dinners.

Product instructions

Stovetop:
1. Place the unopened pouch in a saucepan of boiling water.
2. Heat for 10–15 minutes.
3. Carefully remove the pouch and cut it open.
4. Pour the sauerkraut into a serving bowl and serve warm.

Microwave:
1. Cut open the pouch.
2. Pour the contents into a microwave-safe bowl.
3. Heat until thoroughly warm.
4. Serve immediately.
