Product information

Steel Cut Black Oats are made from whole Black Oat groats that are cut into pieces rather than rolled flat. This traditional process creates a hearty oatmeal with a firm texture, pleasant chewiness, and a rich, nutty flavour.

Black Oats are an ancient Norwegian oat variety with a naturally different nutritional profile than ordinary white oats. They contain approximately 50% more unsaturated fat and 15% fewer carbohydrates, contributing to their distinctive taste and character.

Unlike rolled oats, Steel Cut Black Oats retain more of the grain's original structure. The result is a more substantial porridge with a gourmet texture that many oat enthusiasts prefer.

Black Oats are also naturally more resistant to disease than conventional oat varieties, allowing them to be grown with minimal intervention and resulting in a cleaner, more natural product.

These oats get their name from their naturally dark outer hull. While oats can be white, yellow, red, or black, white oats are by far the most common variety. Black Oats remain a rare Nordic heritage grain appreciated for their unique flavour and nutritional qualities.
