Jacob's extra spiced mulled wine is a nice Christmas favorite for many Norwegians.

History

Gløgg tastes sweet and good, creates a sense of atmosphere and is absolutely sure to create the right Christmas feeling for the guests.

Mulled wine is referred to as a magic drink to put people in a good mood. It has a long history dating back to 400 AD. This spicy drink was considered to be so healthy that it was called "Ypocras" or "Hipocris" after the father of the arts, the Greek Hippocrates (460 BC - 377 BC). Since then, mulled wine has been referred to as a drink that could cure diseases and be an effective medicine against the heaviness of the winter darkness. Hot wine with spices and herbs could also help heal other diseases.

From glühwein to mulled wine

The French already served 400 years ago its own glowy variant of hot cognac with sugar in it. Therefore, today many people think that the recipe for real Christmas soup should contain cognac. Eventually, the French have added more red wine to their warm cognac.
In the 19th century, glühwein, hot, spicy wine with almonds and raisins, a very popular drink in Europe, is still consumed by both residents and tourists - especially in the alpine lands. It is this variant that eventually came north and got the Swedish name gløgg. In addition to almonds and raisins, it is typical of the incense that it is sweeter than other spicy wine, and may also have a higher alcohol content.

Do not boil!

Gently mix with water, red wine or spirits as desired. Should you have a Christmas party, it is advisable to have two boilers of mulled wine - one with and one without alcohol! There is always someone driving or preferring alcohol-free. Tomteglove and Tomtebrygg are great sellers, but many also prefer other varieties.

Keep in mind that the glow must only be heated. When the incubator begins to boil, the taste quickly deteriorates and much of the joy disappears. Almonds, raisins and gingerbread cookies are classics, but you can also serve another Christmas cake!
